The Female Reproductive System

In this lab you will learn about a number of structures in the female reproductive system.

    Female Reproductive System Anterior

Locate the suspensory ligaments of the ovaries right and left. Dissect these away.

You should now be able to locate the right and left ovaries.

Locate the right and left uterine tubes. These are sometimes called the Fallopian tubes. They form a pathway for the egg cell called and oocyte between the ovary and uterus. As the tube reaches the ovary it forms a widening called the infundibulum. It then divides into finger-like projections called fimbrae. The fimbrae are there to pick up the oocyte after it is released from the ovary during ovulation.

Locate the uterus. The uterus consists of 3 layers. The innermost layer is called the endometrium. This is the layer that sheds during menses. The middle layer is a thick smooth muscle layer called the myometrium and the outer layer is called the perimetrium.

Locate the vagina. The vagina terminates with the cervix. The cervix is the opening of the uterus.

Locate the remaining structures in your text.

This concludes the lab.
